Moodle Illustration.

This was our first test assignment! Our task was to think of metaphor/concept/analogy that illustrates how I see Moodle with all its different elements and areas. We were asked to use a pencil and paper to draw this.

The first days were a little overwhelming and I used my first day to get to know Moodle. It took me some time to get to know the new system and there were a lot of information to find and to read.

I decided, after I read the task assignment, to take notes, to see how I felt about Moodle during the week. The first thing I wrote down was that I was nervous (of course since it was my first day at Graphic Design). Everything was unfamiliar, it was something new and I was afraid to miss what I was suppose to do and not find my way through Moodle.

The next thing I discovered was that there were a lot of information to gain if you looked in «the right places». The Forums, LinkedIn Learning, My courses and so on. I surfed around, just clicked on everything multiple times and read everything I could. And then it made more sense. It became more clear and I eventually learned shortcuts, instead of clicking back and forth. I also got to know the Search bar, which was helpful. I found a lot of useful information in the forums from students and teachers.

Then I began to think of how I could present Moodle as an illustration. The first thing that popped into my mind was how I felt about Moodle the first day. As I said, the first thing was that I was nervous. In my mind I saw I Smiley that was nervous (probably how I looked the first day), so I googled images of «Scared smiley» .

I drew a nervous Smiley that was supposed to show how I felt about visiting Moodle.

I got the idea that I could make a cartoon that included me, visiting a planet in the universe called Moodle. I named the cartoon: «My first day visiting planet Moodle».

I remembered the Microsoft Word-helper called «Clippy» and thought that I could make a some short of helper out of the Moodle Logo, I decided to call him «Mr. Moodle».

The logo for Moodle includes the letter M and I immediately pictured Mr. Moodle as an Elephant.

I then drew the things I wanted to include in the cartoon I was making. The nervous me visiting Moodle the first day, Mr. Moodle, the other «Moodler´s» as I called them which was my fellow students and the «Pro Moodler´s» which was the teachers.

The story behind the cartoon came to me as I drew and it was Mr. Moodle helping me and point me in the direction to the town (Graphic Design 1) I am staying at planet Moodle.

The last drawing in the cartoon is an image of «the town – Graphic Design 1», which is how I see the different elements in Moodle. I wanted to make it simple and included the elements I see as most important to me now. I also made it a little funny, for example LinkedIn Learning is the cinema, since it is a site with videos. The cafe in the town is called «Discussion Forums», I visualized the Forums like a cafe where a lot of people meet. My house in the town is My profile, and so on.

I enjoyed this task a lot! It was really fun and I was pleased with how it turned out.
