The first assignment in the Lesson task this week, was to have a little fun and find some creative solutions to 4 riddles. I think it was a great way to start this week with Idea development, to get the creative side of the brain going with having some fun!
I love riddles and I have a competitive instinct, so I wanted to find the solution myself. I also asked my boyfriend later to see his solutions to compare them and to see who was the fastest in finding the solutions (It was me😉)
Riddle 1: A man is replacing a wheel on his car, when he accidentally drops the four nuts used to hold the wheel on the car. They fall into a deep drain, irretrievably lost. A passing girl offers him a solution that enables him to drive home. What is it?
My answer: My first thought was that the girl was passing by in a tow truck and could just give the man and his car a ride home. But then I read the riddle again and it says that the passing girl offers a solution for HIM to drive home. The solution could be that the girl says he could take a nut from each wheel, so that each wheel has three nuts. He can´t drive far or on the highway, but can manage to get home.
Riddle 2: Two Russians walk down a street in Moscow. One Russian is the father of the other Russian’s son. How are they related?
My answer: I had to draw this to see the logic in it. At first I thought it might have something to do with adoption, the child can have two fathers, a biological and an adoptive father. But after reading the riddle a few more times, I saw that it didn´t say anything about the gender of «the other Russian», so it could also be the mother!
Riddle 3: What occurs once in June, once in July and twice in August?
My answer: This one took me some time. Was it something to do with vacation? Summertime? The weather? But, then again, really looking into to the riddle, and reading it a couple of times it suddenly hit me!
I shouldn´t think of the months, but the words themselves. One “U” in June and July and two “U´s” in August.
Riddle 4: Six drinking glasses stand in a row, with the first three full of water and the next three empty. By handling and moving only one glass at a time, how can you arrange the six glasses so that no full glass stands next to another full glass, and no empty glass stands next to another empty glass? What is the minimum number of moves to solve this puzzle?
My answer: Yet again I had do draw. I started with a swap of the glasses in the middle, but I soon realized that it would take me some moves to solve the puzzle and that I could solve it with ONE move, by swapping the middle full glass and the middle empty glass.
